Airplane Tips Part 2

Lauren asked for some tips for flying with babies. I pretty much gave all my advice the first time around and have only flown once since then and that was with a toddler not a baby. I think flying with a baby is so much easier than flying by myself 6 months pregnant with an 18 month old. Anyhow, I know that since then many of you have flown or have flown more with your babies. I want you to share your best flying with babies advice with Lauren. I think her son is 6-7-8 months old. Thanks!

1. Request a bassinette!
2. We happened to take off on a 15 hour flight during Hazel's bed time, which worked out REALLY well because she slept pretty much the first 7-8 hours of the flight. I think I would definitely time my flights around bedtime again.
3. A little baby Benadryl is a great tool. :)
4. Remember...babies cry. It's gonna happen. Anyone on the plane who gets frustrated by that, well, they're being unreasonable. Just repeat that to yourself over and over.

on small planes without bassinettes, ask for a window and aisle seat for you and your hubby. trust me, that will be the last seat chosen on the plane (I'm in travel sales, so I know). if no one has taken it by flight time, you can bring your car seat on and snap it into the seat (has to be the window) so you don't have to hold kiddo the whole time. even if kiddo doesn't have a ticket! most car seats should buckle into plane seats with no problem (make sure it says something about FAA on the side). And if the seat DOES get taken, you can always check the carseat planeside, which means it gets better handling anyway.

Take a stroller. Even though some people are all about the snugli (and we keep one of those on hand, too), the stroller is invaluable for layovers.

Bring a big blanket and lots of toys for playtime on the floor during layovers - baby has enough time cramped up and will want to stretch out.

Puffs. You can never have enough puffs.

oh, you've been in india too long!! they're like cheerios, but they dissolve quicker. perfect for a baby who is just learning to eat finger food. more for entertainment and pincer-grasp practice than calorie value, but they keep 'em busy!

don't buy the gerber brand, the generics are so much cheaper!
