Holding Them

Our new schedule has been Jonathan will stop by the Nicu on the way to work for an hour or so then I'll go in the afternoon while someone stays with the girls. Then after they are asleep, one of us will go back up for a little while.

The boys have moved into the same room and the best part about that is we can hold them at the same time now! Jonathan got to do it first yesterday and I was a bit jealous. But I got my turn in the afternoon.

Rhys is on the left and Owen is on the back wall. They have dropped their feeding tubes and are taking breastmilk by bottle. Owen only takes about 3/4 of his by bottle so he does have a tube back in his nose for now. But thankfully his tummy is tolerating the food so he can keep increasing the amount with his brother.

I've gotten to do some kangaroo care which is holding the baby skin-to-skin like a kangaroo does.

I got to practice some with Rhys yesterday and then today...

I got to do kangaroo care with both of them at the same time. It was probably the sweetest thing I've ever done in my whole life. The boys both slept peacefully on my chest and I could look at them and smell them and just love on them.

They are both jaundiced and sunning under the lights. Hopefully that will be resolved in a few days because when they are done with the lights, they will be moving to open air cribs.

Do you know which one is which? This is Owen.

Our Nicu's policy is no one is allowed inside but the parents during cold and flu season. So yes that means the girls haven't met them. It means the grandparents haven't met them. We wish they could but we understand its keeping the little babies safe.

And Rhys.

How long will they be in the Nicu? Its really hard to say but 3 weeks will put them at 37 weeks gestation so we'll go with that.

I love all the pictures. So do you think there is something that tells them apart yet? I love the sunning pictures. Of course I also LOVE that you got to hold them both and just snuggle!!!! We love you Rhys & Owen!!!!

I cried. I played a little game with each picture - before I read the caption I tried to guess who it was! I was right most of the time. Hope this is a sign that it'll always be that way, but I doubt it! ;)

How sweet! I am glad that they are both doing so well! You also sound like you are doing well too I can hear it in your tone in your blogs. I will continue to keep the boys and your family in my prayers and I will check on you guys when I get back from my trip.

The Kangaroo care reminds me the karev episode of Grey's Anatomy. I am not sure if you still watch it, but that's what it reminded me of. And you and J are the reason I watch that show...ha ha. Anyways, your sons are PEEERFECT. they are sooo sweet!!! Thanks for keeping us updated!!!

I think the real question is, can YOU tell them apart? :)

that picture of both boys on your chest is one of the sweetest things I have seen, ever.

oh! and hallelujah for eating through their mouths (mostly) and breathing so well and everything! Hard to believe it will actually be three more weeks, I'm praying for sooner!!

Thanks girls.

I always know which one is which because of all the external clues- like Owen has a tube in his nose or this baby came out of Rhys's crib and is attached to wires going to that crib so it must be Rhys. I do have a hard time identifying them in pictures. Owen's face seems a bit rounder and his nose a bit wider. But that only helps when you can see them side by side.

"...this baby came out of Rhys's crib and is attached to wires going to that crib so it must be Rhys" = why I love Kelley. :)

Owen still had the tube in his nose this morning, but they changed his IV so he no longer has the splint on his left hand. They're trying to make it harder for us to ID pictures now!

i was just reading all the comments and it reminds me of full house when they had two Twins...and the girls thought they mixed them up...i feel like nail polish was involved for identifying...do you remember this episode or i am crazy?

i realize that saying two twins is a little redundant...still adjusting to the lingo :)
