Cloth Diaper Update

Since weaning Sienna to soy milk full-time, her poopy diapers have been disgusting! I gave it a few months thinking it would get better but it hasn't. When I was talking with her ped (whom I love but that is another post), he thinks she may be slightly intolerant to soy also. At this point, its not hurting her (just me who has to change those things!) so he doesn't think it is necessary to cut soy out of her diet. But I have had enough of those digusting diapers and I have officially stopped cloth diapering until something changes. I miss it and it pains me to have to pay for diapers when we have those nice BumGeniuses sitting all pretty in her drawer. But I just can't do it. I have limits y'all. And I've reached one here. I can't wait till things get back to normal but until then Pampers, Huggies, whatever diapers happen to be on sale- we'll be getting to know you again.

And for free:

I love that you have limits and aren't afraid to admit it, even though you still kind of seem supermomish to me.

and I LOVE that picture of the girls, they're starting to look alike!

I recently tried walgreens brand diapers and they are not huggies or pampers, but I would buy them again.. they were only 5.00 a pack (I thought they were worth it.) I have a lot of friends who use I think it is white cloud from wal mart and swear by them. Congratulations on #3 by the way@!

CDing just gets grosser once they start an only food diet! Motivation to potty train sooner. :)

All of the generic brand diapers work well once the explosion, only breast milk phase is over, at least on my little ones' hineys. No guilt - those BGs will get used again soon.

I'm with Erin. Glad you have your limits and love the picture.

I have to disagree with the Walgreens diapers though. We bought them for my niece when she was here and the tabs on over half the diapers fell off, making them useless. Waste of money.

And I am SO jealous that you've read Pat Conroy's new book!!! What did you think of it?

I'm glad you know when it's just not worth it to you anymore. Do you still recommend it? I don't want to start a whole stash and regret it.

I have used Walgreens diapers in the past and didn't have any leakage problems. I did have some (maybe 5?) tabs fall off. But they aren't useless! You can use duct tape or you can double diaper- put the tabless one on, then put another diaper over top. When you change the diaper, take off hte bottom one and use the top one by itself.

I really enjoyed Pat Conroy's book. I was like #67 on the waiting list at my library when I got on a while back. I thought the plot moved well and that he created some of the most fascinating characters I've ever read.

Yes Mert- I still totally recommend it. It really is just b/c Sienna has all these rare intolerances that mess up her digestive system. I was validated today when Melanie (who doesn't read this blog) kept S for a while and changed a dirty diaper. Mel said it was disgusting and she wouldn't want to rinse it either. But I plan to return to CD when S's poops get better or when #3 is big enough.

Okay, so "useless" wasn't the right word. Maybe I should have said extrememly frustrating. And besides, who wants to carry around a role of duct tape in your diaper bag? And when you don't know the diapers are poorly made, you end up at the zoo with no diapers left at the end of the day and an hour drive home. No fun.

So glad to hear you liked the book. Conroy is my favorite author of all time.

yea that sucks

emu - that's when you bust out one of your burp cloths (they're really diapers, after all) and just wrap them around baby's crotch and put some pants on over it for the car ride. I've done it more than once.

though I have to agree on the walgreens diapers - I like other generics much better (including target and white cloud from wal-mart). but I still like my huggies best. :)

merritt -- I know people say this all the time, and you probably won't believe it until you're THERE (I didn't)... but breastfed poops are NOT bad. They have AN odor, but it's not a BAD/stinky odor. You will definitely get good use of your cloth diapers. Even most toddlers have normal poops that can just roll or fall out of the diaper (easily flushable), I think Sienna is the exception. :)

Erin,
This was with my niece who was almost 2 at the time, so her mama had stopped carrying around burp clothes. Anyway, we made it home somehow, but I won't ever buy Walgreens diapers again!

And I'm a cloth diaper fan, Merritt. As soon as I get with it, I'm going to do a few posts on our experience with them so far.

oh yeah... true that, we abandoned the burp cloths YEARS ago, now they're just sitting in a drawer waiting for beanie!

That's funny b/c I still carry a burp cloth/cloth diaper always. I think I have one in my purse
(a thin one- not the bulky cloth diaper one). Sienna's bag now is diapers, wipes, extra outfit and burp cloth.

you know, I think I had even abandoned the BAG by 1 year.

a small pack of wipes, one diaper, and bib that folds flat.

all that stuff fits right in my purse, and it's RARE he needs more than that. a few snacks maybe, but those can toss into my purse too (raisin boxes are small).

True that Erin. I was referring to her bag that we leave with her when she goes to MOPS, church, etc. I love love love the freedom of going out with just my purse!

Have you tried rice milk? Or almond milk?

Kelley C said...

I've looked into rice milk and it's mostly carbs while almond milk is very low in calcium and Vit D. Soy milk is by far the best nutritional replacement for dairy at her stage of life. Since its not bothering her and she should outgrow this in the next three months, we're just sticking with the soy milk.
