I'm back on my new laptop. The new hard drive arrived this morning and Jonathan reinstalled everything tonight. I spent the last two days using my old laptop (which Kiran has taken to calling her pater [computer]) and it was very tortuous. It is so incredibly slow which never bothered me until I had a few days on my very fast computer.
We only lost about 10 days worth of "work"- blog book editing, budget updating, photos- but I've learned my lesson. I'm going to start backing up every day. Starting tomorrow.
I have a little tutoring job and I've been saving up my money to buy a digital SLR camera. But lately I've really been thinking about the Ipod Touch. Question: Which should I buy first? dSLR or Ipod touch?

Get an ipod nano AND a digital SLR.
The iTouch is definitely cheaper. Then you could organize your life and keep track of your savings for your SLR! :)
My word verification is: frindow. It sounds like something a little kid would say instead of "window".
I'm with Deb. However I don't know what an ipod touch is...so no great word of wisdom.
well i am for the camera. i take the best pics of Nellie with mine and those babies aren't getting any younger! you could take all sorts of amazing pics and then put them on your ipod touch when you get it later :)
i say who needs an i pod touch?...get an i phone! they are so worth it... need more persuading? email me :)
I have to agree the iPhone makes more sense to get than just an iPod touch.... And I'd also have to agree that you should get the iPhone before you get an SLR. You can use your iPhone to take pics with until you get your SLR.
Oh...another thing about the iPhone is there is a Kindle reader application and you can download books that are in Kindle format (which are a lot cheaper) and read them right from your phone (which you carry around with you anyway so no need for the extra space of a book when you're out and about). This is a great option for those of us that live overseas and don't have access to good bookstores. It also saves space and paper!
I hear you on the iphone. Its my ideal. BUT it also has a $25/month extra charge on top of what we're already paying for my cell phone. I'm not sure if the iphone is worth an extra $300 PER YEAR. I like the ipod touch b/c I need something to help me be organized and I can sync it with a lot of the online applications I already use (google calendar, remember the milk, etc). I could just get an electronic planner of some sort but I don't currently have an ipod and that would be nice to have for running.
I have a good digital camera now which I can continue to use. But I envy those digital slrs. I was playing with a Canon tonight....Sign. I wish I was saving at a faster rate than $25 per week. Or that I would not have all these desires....
SLR--it will make memories that will last forever.
One thing to think about on the DSLR is that there will probably be other things you'll want to go with it at some point. New lenses, a flash, a cord to attach to your camera and flash so you can hold it away from the camera to make it look more like natural light (this and the flash made Jacob's pictures look even better!), etc. Though I'm sure it'll be easier for you to wait on those things...it wasn't for Jacob. I had told him he could have one new item each year for that years' worth of gifts but he somehow got most of his list while we were in the States. I give in so easily! So, just a thought...unfortunately like a lot of new things after you get it you want other things to go with it. Though I don't know which to vote for because I totally hear you on both sides!!
