Hawaii Break: Winning Presents!

A couple of months ago, I won two contests on the internet like within a week of each other. It was a lucky week. I should have bought a lottery ticket.

First, I won a contest on Jacob & Sara's blog. I don't even remember what it was- maybe it was just leaving a comment? Anyways, our package arrived a while back and inside was a beautiful Thai elephant (they were living in thailand then; have since moved to HK). I have it hanging above my stove which is probably very non-feng-shui but it makes me smile while I am cooking. I love keeping up with them because their two girls are pretty much the exact same age as our girls (seriously the firsts are like a week apart and the seconds are like a month b/c hers came early). Thanks Sara!

pretty Thai elephant

Then I won the contest on TeamUecker's blog for guessing the correct birth day of their daughter! I figured I'd be getting a Hook 'Em Horns magnet or something of the likes. I was incredibly surprised when a brand new bright pink Bumgenius 3.0 One-Size Cloth Diaper showed up in my mailbox! I was really touched by the individuality and thoughtfulness of this gift. Now my stash is up to 9 cloth diapers!! Woohoo- thanks Ueckers!

I bummed this picture off the Ueckers blog b/c I didn't take time to take a picture when it arrived on this end- I ripped it open and put it on my daughter's bum immediately! Clean! White! Soft! I love them. So this is baby Annie and she was born on May 4th...just like I predicted.

So...I totally didn't plan this when I started this post but I am inspired to do a contest! I'll give something away! I have no idea what.... this is spontaneous... but I'll do it. And don't worry only like 7 people whose last names aren't Caskey or Fitzgerald read this so your chances of winning are great! Hum what to do for the contest...

Since I'm in the throes of tracking down classmates for our 10 year high school reunion, leave a comment and tell me if you went (or are planning to go) to your 10 year high school reunion and why or why not!

I had previous plans with an extra wisdom tooth, so I missed mine. That's right. Ten years, zero reunions, and fife teeth...

No and you read the blog on why not. :)

I've only been out of HS for 9 years. But, in order to get a good bid for this giveaway (I could really use a cloth diaper, hehe) I'm going to tell you my plans about it. If I've lost the baby weight by next summer, then we'll go to both of ours. If not, we won't. Doesn't that sound very vain? Well, I was quite the chubby teenager, and I won't go as a chubby adult to my reunion when I worked so hard to get it off. So, here's to quick weight loss after baby!

Some people from my high school are apparently organizing an "anti-reunion" party at the same time as the real high school reunion. Ugh. That's enough right there to keep me away. I'm too old for high school drama!

I missed mine. I really wanted to go to it, but we were still in India - I thought I was going to make it, but they celebrated it in the fall and not the summer, so we weren't in America yet. I totally would have gone though! TONS of opportunities to 'share' and I really wanted to see my friends ;) It was sad to see pics on facebook of the group of friends I hung out with the most with everyone but me :( I would have loved to see everyone!
The down side is that it's expensive and they had an afternoon meet&greet then they only did one night and it was at an outside bar, so everyone was drunk for most of it - BUT I still wish I would have been able to go. So many opportunities to share!! Most of my best friends in high school weren't believers, so it would have been great to see them again and get to talk to them!!

Nope, I was overseas when it came around and really not worth the cost to fly back to the states for it.

Nope. We aren't having one. I went "home" last week, though, so it was a reunion of sorts, I suppose, since I drove by the school.

megan - me too!! some girls are planning this same thing, an anti-reunion of sorts (I didn't know about it until last week in DC when I was catching up with an old friend).

I think it's unlikely I will go, for several reasons:

1.) Unlike Erin H, I still AM that chubby girl from high school and never got hott and skinny. Though at least I currently have a baby to blame it on. Convenient, eh?

2.) It's like 10 days before my due date. While I'm pretty sure Beanie will come late, I'd rather not risk it. Sweating, panting, crying, and amniotic fluid all over the reunion floor doesn't seem the best way to convince people I am now hott after all.

3.) My best friend from high school is now my hubby. So... I see him. A lot. We have a reunion every day. Another good friend was a college roomie. And... that's pretty much it, I didn't have lots of friends - the people I am peripherally curious about I can stalk on facebook for MUCH cheaper than a reunion.

4.) Speaking of which, it's expensive. Like $75 per person or something. How rich do they think we are?

5.) For my prize I will take any girly kid stuff you are ready to get rid of. :)

Yay! I'm so glad you liked your present.

I have no desire whatsoever to go to my 10 year HS reunion, which is this fall. I'm not the same person I was then, and I really haven't stayed in touch with anyone I went to HS with. Plus, it's halfway across the country from where we lived...maaaaaybe we would go if it were down the street. Maaaaaybe.

JEU really wants to go to his reunion though. Darn boy was the HS president and too popular for his own good. Keeps up with plenty of HS friends that adore him. He is busy planning the reunion, though probably won't be able to go since it's so far away. I think I'd rather go with my hubby to his reunion than for us to go to mine!

Oh, Erin G. - I wouldn't say hott and skinny. I'd just say less, um, beastly, haha! GO ahead, blame that baby! I am and it's wayyyy earlier than you if you already know it's a girl!

And who says amniotic fluid isn't hott?

And I totally agree about the Facebook thing - who needs reunions after all?

Do I win since I commented twice? :)

I went to my 10 year a couple of months ago. I graduated with a class of 25 people and hadn't seen ANY of them since graduation. I figured it would be a good chance to see everyone and to prove to them that I had turned out normal after all.

Well, only 4 other people showed up, NOT including the class organizer! And, my poor husband suffered through it all with me like a champ.

Erin H only first comments will be entered in the contest. Sorry- contest rules.

fun! I keep thinking about doing a contest too!!
Chris and i went to both of our reunions. I didn't really want to go to either but am glad I did. We had a good time. Wouldn't have been the end of the world to miss them at all, but was fun enough to catch up with a few people from the past.

I wasn't able to go to mine since we were overseas when it took place. Steve's class didn't have a 10 yr reunion but are now doing a 13 yr one! Seems like once u miss the 10 yr mark u might as well wait for 15! Doesn't look like we will make that one either though. Great idea for a contest! For the record tho, I don't want any diapers- cloth or otherwise - when I win. :)

I didn't get to go to mine either - we were overseas. I wanted to, though! But like Andrea said, I looked at pictures online afterward and it seemed like alcohol was the focus for most people. It would have been a good sharing opportunity. Micah didn't go to his either but he wasn't interested in it. If I'm in town for the next one, I'd like to go if I can convince Micah to fork out the big bucks. My high school had a separate family picnic the day after and I think that would be more fun, as you could see everyone's kids.

Not only am I going to my ten year, I was also supposed to plan it. But because I am officially the least school-spirited president there ever was, I passed it off to the homecoming queen.

I am glad I got out of planning it because it is going to be not one, not two, but three events: a football game, family picnic, and a dinner party. So I think I should win this contest because a) I actually said no to the planning of the reunion, b) I am going to go, despite lack of desire to rekindle old high school friendships, and c) I am commenting on your blog, which as you know, is a rare occurrence.

I sort of went to my reunion, which was this past fall. Josh and I graduated together, but didn't start dating until spring of our senior year in college. Our high school has a big event on the Friday morning of Homecoming at the school and we went to that. The actual reunion was kind of pricey and we heard that only 14 people had responded to go (we graduated with about 375), so we decided it wasn't worth the $80 or whatever we were going to have to pay to go. We did have plans to go to the Homecoming game and hang out with people afterwards, but it started a monsoon right before the game so we met Lawson & Michelle at Starbucks to wait out the rain. The rain never stopped so for our "reunion", we sat in Starbucks with Lawson & Michelle for about 2 1/2 hours (this is after we'd met them for dinner), and chatted. I'm not really sure if that counts considering they are the only people from high school we keep in touch with. But we DID see a lot of people at the assembly that morning, if that counts for anything.

My 10 year reunion was this past weekend actually! I did go, even though it included many of the elements others have commented about here...
We had a group decide that the planning was "unfair" so they didn't show up at this one and are planning an alternate reunion for September. Oh, the drama.
I debated whether to go or not, because, like Liz, I'm not who I was then, and really, aside from Facebook, I don't have any contact with the majority of these people...but then I felt like that was WHY I needed to show up. To let them see how the Lord has been working in me.
And it was fun. Small group, but fun.

I did not go to my reunion. I thought about it for about a minute but we were traveling the weekend before it and the weekend after (flying to NJ) and I just decided the kiddos didn't need the stress of three weekends of traveling in a row :)
