Big Girl Bed

I mentioned a few days ago that we moved Kiran into her Big Girl Bed. We just did it one night. We set up the big bed and took down the pack-n-play. J's parents stayed with Sienna so that J & I could take Kiran to Target to pick out her Big Girl Bed Sheets.

So they don't quite match the purple bedspread that we had for her. I'm ok with that because she loved picking them out.

Nights have been no problem. Naps have been very hit or miss. Sometimes she goes right to sleep, sometimes she plays on her bed for a while before going to sleep, sometimes she plays the whole time.



See those pom-poms on the bedspread. Yea they are coming off at a rate of one a day so I wanted to go ahead and take a picture with some of them still attached. Apparently, bedspreads with pom-poms and almost-two-year-olds are a destructive combination.

Siena and Sienna

I bought this tile in Siena, Italy in April 2007 intending to hang it in my future daughter's room. (I know the spelling is different but we already explained that here.)

The coming James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, was partially filmed in Siena, Italy.

Moby Wrap

Its a Mom Thing inspired me to write about my baby wearing. With Kiran, we had a Bjorn which we loved and used often (after she hit 8lbs around 6 weeks old) in India. This time I wanted something that I could use right away (although Sienna came out weighing 8lbs 6oz....) plus I wanted one that snuggled the baby in more. I did tons of research because....well beacuse that's what I do before making a purchase. And I decided to get a Moby wrap. I ordered mine online but last week I saw them for sale at Target.

I love my wrap. Which is a good thing b/c Sienna loves that wrap. I wear her in it at least once a day usually more. I wear her pretty much every time we go out somewhere. She doesn't particularly care for her car seat so even though we now have a Sit-N-Stand stroller (yea!), we prefer to shop without her screaming the whole time.

First time in wrap- 7 days old- going to Walmart

Plus, I have a hard time staying home even after having a baby (I'm an extrovert) so I felt confident taking Sienna out because I could hold her close to me and protect her from well-meaning strangers who wanted to touch her. I've worn her in my wrap to church every Sunday since she was 1 week old. We have met many more people at church since I started wearing Sienna than we did the entire time before she was born.

Many times when Sienna starts crying, Kiran will look at me and say, "Mommy wrap." However the other day, Sienna was not crying, but Kiran brought me the wrap and asked me to put it on her. She loved getting all wrapped up and wearing her Care Bear around the house. She even "helped" J unload the dishwasher.

Sadie

Sadie Burdette Carlisle

I suggested Sadie! Sadie is a variation of Sarah which means princess! I think she will def be the princess of the Carlisle family! Burdette is my sister and my dad's middle name. And Carlisle is their last name.

A Moment

Oh I just had a moment. I tiptoed into Kiran's room. I walked past the empty pack-n-play and peered into the other corner of the room. There she was- asleep on her side with her back to me. She was holding one of the three stuffed animals that went to bed with her tonight. She simultaneously looked so old sleeping in her new Big Girl bed and so young swallowed by all that empty space. I walked out with tears in my eyes. I'm so proud of her- she was so excited to sleep in her Big Girl bed and she did beautifully, going right to sleep. But I'm sad that yet another milestone has been passed- another reminder that she is growing older and needing me less. She's less of a baby and more of a little girl. My little girl.

Are all milestones bittersweet for mothers?

P.S. No name for the niece yet. We gave them a 48 hour time limit and then the aunt and uncle get to name her! Actually I think they are getting close and hopefully they will pick the name I suggested! I'll let you know!

More Baby News

My sister, Erin, had her third child this evening! She & her husband chose not to find out the gender this time beforehand so we were anxious to know!

Its a GIRL!

Its a nameless girl. They still are deciding on names so if you have a suggestion, let me know and I'll pass it along. This baby and Sienna aren't even 7 weeks apart. Baby Girl was 7lbs 3 oz and 19ish inches long. We were able to be there as they wheeled Erin out of surgery and hear the news first hand. Experiences like this are especially sweet since we missed so much living overseas. We were actually playing Apples to Apples with the Hagens in the Philippines when we received the call that Addy had been born. It was precious to be able to hold this one less than an hour after she was born.

Well- it was precious for me anyway. Apparently, the sentiment was not returned.

It Is With Great Joy...

Brenna and I met at FITS (Fun in the Son!) at TFBC way back in 6th grade and this picture was taken 16 years later on the day Sienna came home from the hospital. Bren and I claim that our friendship continues because we never went to school together therefore we always had to work at our friendship. Actually its because we both love Chick-Fil-A. Anyhow.... it is with great joy that I am announcing that Brenna and Geoff are expecting TWINS!

Bren & Geoff have had quite a journey to get to today- the day they saw their two babies' heartbeats. Bren has started a blog which explains some of what they have been through and more importantly, the present joy of a twin pregnancy.

The past few years have been hard for Brenna but I can testify to the sweet fruit that the Lord has produced in her life. I have seen Brenna continually reach places of deeper dependency on the Lord. The way she has taken the challenges and the deferrment of what she wants has truly inspired me and challenged me. I know she isn't perfect and she had very hard moments and days but she never dwelled there. She allowed the Lord to use it within her and I think that is awesome. I knew she had tasted and known that the Lord was good when she told me a few months ago that she would not trade the past two years for the ability to conceive a chlid easily. Powerful words from a sincere heart.

I am so excited for them so go over and welcome them to the blog world! And there is a big prayer request for baby #2 there too.
