Moby Wrap

Its a Mom Thing inspired me to write about my baby wearing. With Kiran, we had a Bjorn which we loved and used often (after she hit 8lbs around 6 weeks old) in India. This time I wanted something that I could use right away (although Sienna came out weighing 8lbs 6oz....) plus I wanted one that snuggled the baby in more. I did tons of research because....well beacuse that's what I do before making a purchase. And I decided to get a Moby wrap. I ordered mine online but last week I saw them for sale at Target.

I love my wrap. Which is a good thing b/c Sienna loves that wrap. I wear her in it at least once a day usually more. I wear her pretty much every time we go out somewhere. She doesn't particularly care for her car seat so even though we now have a Sit-N-Stand stroller (yea!), we prefer to shop without her screaming the whole time.

First time in wrap- 7 days old- going to Walmart

Plus, I have a hard time staying home even after having a baby (I'm an extrovert) so I felt confident taking Sienna out because I could hold her close to me and protect her from well-meaning strangers who wanted to touch her. I've worn her in my wrap to church every Sunday since she was 1 week old. We have met many more people at church since I started wearing Sienna than we did the entire time before she was born.

I wore her to a wedding rehearsal

I wear her to the park and let her play too!

Many times when Sienna starts crying, Kiran will look at me and say, "Mommy wrap." However the other day, Sienna was not crying, but Kiran brought me the wrap and asked me to put it on her. She loved getting all wrapped up and wearing her Care Bear around the house. She even "helped" J unload the dishwasher.

I love my sling (which I made myself using the tutorial from www.slingyourbaby.blogspot.com) - especially for wearing my toddler and preschooler on my hip! But I have been wanting to get a Moby Wrap for the new little one. I've found a couple websites that say you can just make your own by cutting 5 yards of t-shirt material in half or in thirds. But since I have never examined a true Moby Wrap I wonder if it would work just as well. Is the Moby tapered at the ends or anything?

Hey you should get $$ for such a good advertisement! :) Why does Kiran look sooooooooo big in those last few pics? She can't be a big girls yet.

that is too cute!

is it true they can really nurse in the wrap? that would be a big benefit.

what a blessing. miller HATED being worn and i tried a few things. i'm sure that makes it so much easier while chasing a toddler around.

For a less expensive, Moby-style wrap you can buy about 6 yards of guaze fabric at the fabric store. Then you just wrap it like a moby. My friend did this and she and her son love the wrap. If I find that guaze is on sale sometime at Hancock's, I'm going back to get some.

Shannon- the ends are tapered. I can try to take a pic of the ends if you want. I'm sure the wrap would be super easy to make yourself with the right fabric. Mine is like a heavy t shirt material- kinda stretchy.

I know there are lots of great wraps, slings, etc out there- I just wanted to share a positive experience!

Yes I nursed Sienna in it at Erin L's rehearsal dinner and no one knew! They all just thought she was sleeping in her wrap.

It def makes it easier having a baby and a toddler- I honestly don't know how I would have survived those first six weeks without it. Now S is falling asleep in her swing more so I'm not wearing her for naps as much.

You did? Wow, who knew! Sneaky sneaky.

I never did a wrap, but now I'm intrigued. I like that first picture, it looks nice and easy. I've always thought they seemed like it would take too much time to tie.

It takes me less than 60 seconds to tie now and it wasn't hard to learn. There are videos on Youtube that show you how to tie it :)

I have a New Native Carrier that someone gave me that Isaac loves, and since he's supposedly my last kid, I'm not going to worry about another, but I think I would like to try a Moby or an Ergo if not. This one still hurts my back and shoulders after awhile. As does the Snuggli and the Hip Hammock which I also have! Wouldn't it be great if you could just get the perfect one the first time? We're like that with strollers too!

Sara Beth- I hadn't heard of that carrier before but it looks good! The only time the Moby wrap has hurt my back was when I didn't tie it tight enough for a walk and Sienna was kinda slumped down on me. Not fun. I'm still going to use my Bjorn sometimes as she gets older. J used the Bjorn too.

I love how you said he is supposedly your last baby.
