Did Yesterday Really Happen?

As soon as the ultrasound tech put the wand on my belly, she asked, "Have you had any other ultrasounds?"

I said, "No, this is the first one this pregnancy."

She put this up on the screen

and asked us if we saw anything interesting.

Jonathan immediately said, "There's two!" And she said, "Yep there's two."

Those are their two little chests- the little black holes inside the grey blobs are their hearts.

This was the part when I covered my face shaking, crying and feeling like I was going to pass out. We were in there an hour measuring everything and I don't remember anything. I know that they were 9oz (Baby A) and 8oz (Baby B) and they looked perfect. The tech saw two sacs which is good but she thinks its only one placenta. We'll have a better idea when we have a Level 2 ultrasound at Maternal Fetal Medicine on Dec 2.

We had NO IDEA that there were twins. Not expecting that at all. Looking back we can see how this pregnancy was slightly different but not in any major way. We joked about it all the time. Just before we went in for the ultrasound, J looked at my belly and said, "I don't think its big enough for there to be two." I agreed. Totally kidding and never really expecting to actually see two heartbeats, lots of arms and legs and boy parts. The ultrasound tech said it had been two years since she had someone come in for an anatomy scan and find out that they were having twins. She said that I was the furthest along that she had ever diagnosed twins (18.5 weeks). Edited: We now know of a few twins in the family but twins do not run in the family.

Terrific! There are twins in the family. Uncle John (Your great-great uncle) had twin grandsons & my brother had twin girls.

Do they know yet if they are identical? IDs aren't hereditary! CONGRATS!

I'm currently watching a show called "Twins by Surprise". In honor of you. TLC if you're interested!

We're excited for you guys! Yeah, if they really are identical then genetics has nothing to do with it. So that might be the case. We've heard there are studies about people who are in their 30's with a few previous kids close together having a higher chance of twins. A family here has 3 that are 8,7, and 5 and had identical boys as 4 and 5!

They think they are ID but we'll know more after my level 2 ultrasound.

I am SO excited for you. I was so shocked last night I remarked to James that I was acting as if I were the one having twins. :) I can't wait to read all about the second half of your pregnancy and life with twin boys! You'll be so cute.

haha! That's so cool!!! My belly is so full of ONE baby right now - I can't imagine two in there!! You'll definitely have to do a lot of blogging and tell us all the differences - that's crazy! I'm so excited! I think it would be so cool to have twins!!
So what does it mean if they're in different sacks and have only one placenta - I don't understand all that twin stuff :) HOW FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
