Jonathan indulged my restlessness yesterday....for an impromptu day trip.
We headed out yesterday morning heading to the Farmer's Market and the Indian grocer. Only. As we headed out the door, Jonathan asked if I wanted to take the camera and I said no, of course not. We're just going to the Farmer's Market and the Indian grocer. I love our Farmer's Market but it only takes about 10 minutes to get through it all. We did get the blue cheese butter than we love.
After stocking up on Indian food, we decided to try out the bbq hole in the wall just up the road from our house. When we got there, it was closed. We figured if we drove some of these country roads that we would stumble upon one.
And we did! We ate at Big Daddy Hawg's BBQ and it was delicious. Afterwards, we had an open afternoon so we hoped the girls sleep in the car for their naps. We picked a road and starting driving north. We eventually ended up in Lake Lure, NC where Dirty Dancing was filmed and just past it in Chimney Rock, NC. We stopped at a playground to let Kiran play (Sienna has finally just fallen asleep!) and enjoy the mountain air.
We took a different way home stopping for ice cream on Main Street in Rutherfordton before heading home. Ah my restlessness has been indulged...thank you husby.

I'm worried. There is a resort here that claims it is where dirty dancing was filmed. Oh and I want to know what kind of Indian food you got. Yummmm!
Google says
It's now been 20 years since Swayze and Grey starred in “Dirty Dancing,” a coming-of-age love story filmed on location at Lake Lure, N.C., and Mountain Lake near Pembroke, Va.
So we're both right. I'll have to let J answer about the Indian food.
Hey Kelley! It was fun bumping into you the other week at the consignment store. I've been thinking about you guys and wondering if you are doing anything with Kiran for preschool? I am thinking about trying to get some people together to do a one day a week thing that both of my girls could do... I think Kiran is right in between them in age? Lucy will be 4 in Nov and Bella 3 in Jan. Something where the moms could take turns teaching each week. Email me if you have any interest!
One of my coworkers and her husband were extras in one of the scenes of Dirty Dancing. I believe they were dancing (shag, ballroom, not sure), and if you stop the movie you can see them for 1 frame or so.
We didn't get any fresh Indian food this time - just took stock of all that they had. They had all the dals, channa, atta flour, etc. that I could ever want so we'll know where to go now when we have a recipe.
I got frozen paneer makhani, chicken tikka and parantha. I'll see if it's any good.
I love it when we're both right. And the Indian food sounds good - and not much sounds good right now! :)
I need to let u try my Chicken Marsala...pretty good for the first time =) hahah!
i get restless too sometimes...then i go running...LOL!
1.) did not know about Lake Lure/Dirty Dancing
2.) Mmmmm barbecue.
3.) Blue cheese butter? Where is this farmers market and can I get some when I am in town over Labor Day weekend. It sounds like I MUST have it.
