Locks of Love

Have any of you every donated hair to Locks of Love? Isn't there another organization that does this too? My hair has gotten long and I'm dying to cut it but this morning I had a brainstorm of maybe letting it grow more and donating it. I've never done this before so I don't really know what the details are. Have any of you done it and can you clue me in on what I need to do? And what is the minimum inches required?

I did Locks of Love last Spring when my hair was soooooooo long - I think I ended up giving 10 inches. You should definitely look into donating - your hair is so thick and beautiful!

I did Locks of Love last September. http://tresalejandros.blogspot.com/2007/08/locks-of-love.html
The longest layer must be 10 inches.
I liked this org. because it helped kids with cancer and I used to work with the kids that received the wigs.
Can't wait to see the new do!

You worked with kids who received the wigs??? That is so cool. Its encouraging to hear that it really does get to the kids.

In India, we met some of the kids who received Operation Christmas Child boxes.

Hey we met some of the OCC kids too! I was really excited because one of my best friend's dad is one of the top guys for OCC, so I knew he would think it was cool that some Indian kids were receiving shoeboxes...even if it was in March. :)

I knew that Kendra did it last year and my niece Sarah grew hers out and was able to give 12 inches and still have LONG hair! I think its a SUPER generous gift!

Sort of connected story...My sweet little friend that got cancer this summer had a wig made out of her OWN hair! They knew she would lose her hair once she started chemo, so they cut her beautiful red hair super short right before she started chemo and made a wig with it. You can't tell she has a wig at all and she looks super cute. I know that having a good wig is a real confidence booster, so I say go for it! :)

hey K - i've done it twice. Locks of Love USED TO have a list of the salons that "donated their services" (i.e. FREE CUT) for anyone donating, but not anymore. :( I haven't found anywhere local that does it, but you can mail it in yourself. Just has to be 10 inches minimum and bound in a ponytail! Hope that helps!

emu- that is really awesome that they gave her a wig of her own hair! She must have had a lot.

a free hair cut! THAT would have been nice. I'll look into all this. I have to go measure my hair.

I've been thinking about doing it too - so this is helpful! Sheri has been growing hers out for over a year, but now I'm making her keep it long until she gets married. Then she can donate, haha!

hey kel - emily b and sarah d did this right after we graduated (the day after they were bridesmaids in my wedding, actually) and they got free haircuts out of it too, if I remember correctly. someplace in the west end in greenville did it. they looked awesome.

Awesome. I'll ask Sarah for more details.

The stuff I read said 8 inches - so if you want to donate to another place, they may have different length stuff - so if you're anxious to get it cut :)

I worked with an area that OCC gave boxes too - it's cool :)
